It's pretty crazy that right now, the highest margin thing to do with these models seems to be simply selling them through an API. Dwarkesh's blog prize [1] questioned how this dynamic could ever result in lab profitability, simply because the scale of reinvestment into model training and research requires constantly reinvesting more than you're making.
